Deer Hunting Tips And Techniques

If you’re looking for an exciting way to get some hunting under your belt, then I would recommend hunting whitetail deer. These animals can be a challenge to hunt and prove to be a challenge for any type of hunter. They are very good at using their main senses of sight, smell and hearing. This is mainly what makes hunting these animals quite the challenge. Attempting to go after a whitetail deer can be done successfully with the proper deer hunting techniques and experience.

There are some important points to consider along with these techniques. For one these whitetail deer are going to know when you’re coming once they catch your scent, even if you can’t see them. Once the deer catch your scent, whether in the air or through something such as the ground you walk on, then you can count on them heading the opposite way and thus losing your chance for a good shot. This can also mean the difference of getting that big buck you may be after.

This is where knowing the correct deer hunting techniques is important when trying to avoid scarring a whitetail deer with your scent. Knowing the proper way to cover your human scent is what will make the difference of you having a successful hunt or not. Deer Hunting Tips And Techniques

It is not always as simple as just getting an item such as spray or scent wipes to succeed in getting through the woods without the deer knowing you’re around. An example is, using the same exact spray or wipe over and over can get deer used to that scent eliminator smell and get them antsy that something isn’t right in their areas. This is a good example of why knowing the proper deer hunting techniques is going to make all the difference when looking for a successful hunt.

When considering the hearing privilege of deer it’s important to know the proper way to use this to your advantage and not give the deer this advantage. Being as quiet as you can when walking to and from your stand is one example. You can also use their hearing to your advantage when using deer calls or antler rattling. Since their hearing is so good they will be able to come right to you, even if they are a mile away from you.

Now when you take sight into consideration, you need to make sure know what you’re doing to not be spotted. Deer are very alert and cautious animals that can scare easily. If they see sudden movement that they’re not used to they will take off without warning. This is why it also helps to know the correct ways to choose your outfit, helping to hide yourself as much as possible from whitetail deer. Deer Hunting Tips And Techniques

Article by Justin Scott Jenkins

Improving your knowledge of whitetail deer hunting and thinking like an expert is perhaps THE best way for newbies and experienced hunters alike to get the trophy buck they have been longing for. Just think about the profound ultimate benefit -

You learn just ONE new tip that works for you and the deer continue to cross your path over and over again.

The most important benefit that you receive is that for the rest of your life you know just what to do to see and attract more deer than ever before.

Unfortunately, the emphasis is on SEEING AND ATTRACTING MORE DEER… with very few hunters ACCOMPLISHING THIS.

Why is that?

Why do some hunters only see one whitetail deer a year off in the distance and others see more whitetail deer than they are allowed to shoot at?

I’ll let you in on a little secret that hardly any of the “deer hunting experts” are talking about…

Without the proper knowledge and guidance seeingand attracting deer consistently is going to be HARD!

There, I said it. It’s the truth and anyone who is a successful whitetail deer hunter that has bagged the trophy buck knows that it is the truth. It’s not an easy thing to draw whitetail deer toward you in one deer hunting adventure let alone on a consistent basis.

Let me explain why it’s so tough (and then, I’ll show you how to SUPER-simplify things)…

5 Reasons Why Deer Hunting Without These Tips And Tactics Is A Bad Idea

1. Not knowing what shots are always safe puts yourself and other people in danger.

(You should always make sure that your shot is clear of EVERYTHING except the lung area of the deer. NEVER take the shot if there is not a clear path and most importantly, NEVER take the shot if you have some “bright orange” in the area.)2. Most hunters spook deer away before they even get a chance to see them.

(Humans are the only creatures who head through the leaf litter with a purposeful stride, so a steady step will quickly give you away. Instead, try the step-step-pause-step method. You’re much less likely to raise the alarm — assuming you’ve followed other precautions, anyway.)3. Most hunters have little knowledge of how a deer behaves and thus have no idea how to attract them.

(Solutions such as rattling with “fresh” antlers, making mock scrapes and then applying doe urine, grunt and bleat calls as well as alarm, mating, contact, maternal, and antagonizing sounds should greatly improve your chances.)4. Deer spot hunters all the time because of improper rattling.

(Rattling is pretty simple, but it can quickly turn into a science. It helps tremendously to know what an actual fight sounds like, so tune in to your favorite program or buy a DVD so you can listen in and mock the sounds. Also, rattling tends to be the most effective during the time of year when bucks are jousting for mates, and likewise where there’s a higher ratio of bucks to does.)5. Most hunters drive deer away using scents the wrong way at the wrong time.

(Part of using scent strategically is to blend in; the rest is to attract deer. The most important thing to remember about scents is to use them, as they would occur naturally. Using doe-in-heat scent after the rut isn’t going to be very convincing. Likewise, if you don’t have a certain food in the area, avoid using that scent.)

With these and many other challenges in front of you, what’s the answer?

The Easiest Way To Take The Big Buck Is To Learn The Tips And Tactics That The Experts Use Every Time They Hunt

There is a much easier, more effective way to hunt and run down your trophy buck. 52 Deer Hunting Tips is that way.

In a nutshell, here’s what you’d do to take your whitetail deer hunting experience to the next level…

1. Read the tip or tactic that is given to you in each and every chapter. 2. Load this information into your brain for use on your next hunt. 3. Apply your new knowledge and see the difference.

It doesn’t matter how good you are, 52 Deer Hunting Tips will make you better

“I’ve been hunting for over 20 years with a lot of success. I didn’t think there was much left to learn, but 52 Deer Hunting Tips has taught me something new! It doesn’t matter how good you are — this book will make you better.”

Ryan C., Chesapeake, VA

Just one tip could change your life as a deer hunter or a combination of tips and tactics could make you the deer hunting expert you’ve dreamed of being.

It’s that simple.

And the benefits are the exact opposite of the barriers for the average deer hunters…

1. 52 Deer Hunting Tips can be used immediately! Take the tips and tactics that are given to you, use them, and start to see results right away.2. 52 Deer Hunting Tips is EASY to use once you know how to use it! The tips and tactics that are given to you will not be hard to digest at all. In fact, some of them will have you wondering why you never thought of them sooner. 3. 52 Deer Hunting Tips doesn’t require any special super gadgets or gizmos! There is not going to be the need to purchase a million dollar hunting machine to become an expert hunter. Most of these tips and tactics won’t cost you a penny to implement. 4. 52 Deer Hunting Tips pretty much requires the same amount of time and effort that you are applying in your current deer hunting! The time and effort needed to apply a lot of these new strategies will not take much more time than what you are doing already. 5. 52 Deer Hunting Tips keeps your trophy buck dreams alive! Keep the dream of bringing home that monster buck alive and improve your chances greatly of making that dream a reality.

Let’s look at a quick example of what situation a “newbie deer hunter” could run into…

Example: Tracking Deer Droppings

Let’s put on our thinking caps and suppose that you are a new hunter looking for a good spot to set up your stand and you come across some deer droppings. What could you do in order to establish a prime location to set up your tree stand?

You could say “Oh look, deer poop!” and then turn in a circle to scout the area and put your stand up on what looks to be the sturdiest tree. Or you could take the information that you’ve acquired with this book and know that if you did that you would most likely NEVER find the trophy buck of your dreams.

The beauty of 52 Deer Hunting Tips is that you would be equipped with the right knowledge and know that there is still more tracking that needs to be done.

-You still need to find out which direction they are most likely coming from.

-You need to find a sturdy tree but one that offers some natural camouflage in the way of branches or underbrush.

-Make sure you try to place it downwind of where you expect to see deer coming.

That is just a few of the things that you will need to know to handle this situation correctly.

I literally could go on and on – there are hundreds of scenarios.

In fact, you could create your own scenarios in your head for each tip or tactic that you receive and come up with your best conclusion so if you ever come across that situation out in the woods, you’ll know the correct thing to do.

So, I’ve pretty much told you the idea here … but, obviously, there is a RIGHT way to do things and a WRONG way to do things.

While the process is very simple and you could get started right now on your own by learning the hard way and letting the big bucks go by, wouldn’t you rather learn some amazing methods of bringing the deer to you?

I thought so.

That’s why I’m going to ask you a simple question …

Who wants to become a better whitetail deer hunter NOW?!

As you use and apply the tips given to you, new knowledge is placed into your hunting style, new ideas are generated and you’ll actually grow as a hunter because you’ll know what to do when it matters most.

The hunter is an outdoors person who braves the elements to bag their chosen quarry. For these people having the best suited hunting clothes can help them in their quest to gain the ultimate hunting trophy. Most of these clothes can be found at your usual department stores. In other cases these hunting clothes can be found in sports stores – in the clothing section of the store – and also in hunting catalogs.

Since the world of hunting covers a wide arena, the choice of hunting clothes has been created to match those needs. You will find that the clothes which are required for the angler, the deer hunter and even the duck hunter are similar in many ways and yet there are differences to be found.

For the enthusiastic duck hunter the choice of clothes will necessitate a warm thermal body suit, comfortable jeans – ones that you won’t mind getting dirty or muddy – and a thick flannel or cotton shirt. Having a jacket where you can store your duck hunting implements is also a great idea. You will need to look at sturdy boots or waders as well when you are choosing your hunting clothes.

You might want to see about buying a hat which gives you the ability to see your quarry even in the bright sunlight. This head gear however should be designed so that it is camouflaged. Speaking of camouflaged hunting clothes these are excellent choices for the squirrel hunter who needs to quietly stalk the quarry unnoticed.

The camouflaged hunting clothes of the squirrel hunter should blend in perfectly with the browns of the trees and branches of the forests which are the favorite haunting grounds of squirrels. There should be shades of green and gold to resemble the foliage of trees. These colors on the hunting clothes will allow the standing hunter the chance of having the squirrel come close enough to get that clean shot.

These types of hunting clothes are camouflaged long sleeved tee shirts, camouflage coveralls, face mask, gloves, and the all important sturdy outdoor boots. These clothes can also be utilized by the deer and big game hunter as well as the turkey hunter. For these individuals however there is also the necessity of wearing a thermal body suit under their hunting clothes.

This body suit will provide the hunter’s body with the necessary insulation against the weather. Also choosing a body suit which is resistant to water will allow the hunter to stay skin dry even in rainy weather.

All in all the choice of hunting clothes is just as important as the right hunting tools and accessories. These combined items will provide the hunter with the best chance of getting the game they are after.

Article by Bill Murphy

What should you pack before your big wild turkey hunting expedition? If you are a novice to this exciting activity, here are some guidelines on how you should prepare for the big hunt.

As the popularity of turkey hunting continues to expand, equipment companies have taken note and provided hunters with an ever-growing stable of hunting accessories and equipment. Turkey hunting used to be quite a simple activity, especially when it was left only to bow hunters who took up the arrow. In recent years, the market has produced hundreds of wild turkey hunting accessories. In days past, the wild turkey hunter only needed to carry a few shells in his hunting vest, pick up a double-barreled shotgun, and that would be it.

Today’s Modern Turkey Hunter Has More Choices Than Ever

While hunters of yore did not have much else but their shotgun and perhaps a slate call box, today’s modern turkey hunters have special camouflaged clothing, extreme full-choked turkey guns and hunting vests with dozens of special pockets. But do you really need all the hunting doodads to be a successful wild game hunter? The first real choice you have to make when it comes to picking and choosing your wild game hunting equipment is to decide what kind of equipment you will choose for carrying your hunting tools and accessories. In this department, there are three basic choices that the modern turkey hunter has to choose from. These include a turkey hunting vest, a backpack, or a fanny pack. Which one is right for you? It depends on how much you are going to carry, and how far you will be going. Turkey vests come in a variety of styles. They can come designed as full vests, or in jacket style. They come in expensive shoulder strap models, or they come in simpler styles. Hunting vests are often favored because they come equipped with many different pockets. This lets you organize your tools and accessories with greater ease. Many hunters favor backpacks because they are easy to carry on long distance hunts, and they allow you to carry more or as much as most vests. They can also be removed quite easily, and you can use them as a backrest. Fanny packs are favored because they are generally the least expensive option. They allow you to carry some gear, but they don’t weigh you down as much as a backpack or a vest. They also provide quick access to your equipment and tools.

What Should You Pack for the Turkey Hunt?

Now that you have decided between a backpack, fanny pack or full vest, more choices arise. What should you pack? This will depend on a variety of factors. One of the biggest things that a turkey hunter is never without is their turkey calls. Turkey calls can be hard to resist, but how many do you really need to carry with you? If you have a special turkey- hunting vest, you can probably store dozens of turkey calls with you. However, if you are not equipped with the right kind of carrying equipment, try to restrict yourself to the very essential calls. Chances are, you will not need to use more than a couple of calls anyway.

Creating a Bare Bones Turkey Hunting Package

Your bare bones turkey-hunting package should consist of the basic requirements. Basic turkey hunting equipment consists of a shotgun, a turkey tag and license, shells, camo coveralls and a mouth call. A more advanced, but still basic turkey-hunting equipment list might consist of a shotgun with at least 5 shotgun shells, a full camo outfit, including a cap, turkey tags, a pencil or pen to sign your turkey tag, several turkey calls, a crow call, gloves, a head net, bugs pray, chalk, water, a compass, a knife and toilet paper.

Article by Gwyn Fisher

While the Agile Manifesto’s principle of “individuals and interactions over processes and tools” seems to de-emphasis the need for tools, Agile teams use many tools to support their development – including software configuration management tools, build management tools, requirements tracking tools, testing tools, project management tools, and more.

Most of the testing tools that are well-known to Agile teams focus on functional testing, unit testing, and build quality, with less of an emphasis on source code verification to identify non-functional errors such as programming bugs. This is likely due to the overly cumbersome options traditionally available to find these types of bugs; Agile teams don’t have time for lengthy code review meetings or to profile their code for days to find a memory leak. Even unit testing, a stalwart of Agile testing, requires the creation and management of test cases to support a developer’s bug hunting.

Agile teams must strike the right balance between using tools to ensure working, quality software while also exercising caution so that the adoption of tools does not hinder the individual interaction required by Agile. Smaller Agile teams may have an easier time striking this balance and may decide to manage the project at hand with nothing more than a large bulletin board and color-coded cue cards. Teams working on larger projects, however, generally employ tools to ensure that they have the best opportunity for success.

Automating Bug Detection: Source Code Analysis in an Agile WorldSCA is a bug-detection solution that requires no test cases, is fully automated, and fits well with milestones typically found in an Agile process. SCA technology has grown in popularity and is becoming a mainstream option for professional software developers to reduce the number of bugs in their code while also reducing costs and keeping software development on track.

The underlying technology associated with SCA is calledStatic Code Analysis and the current generation of technology solutions is capable of providing sophisticated, high-value analysis that will locate and describe areas of weakness in software source code – such as memory and resource management, program data management, buffer overflows, un-validated user input, vulnerable coding practices, concurrency violations, and a variety of longer term maintenance issues. SCA is distinct from traditional dynamic analysis techniques, such as unit or penetration tests, because the work is performed at build time using only the source code of the program or module in question. The results reported are therefore generated from a complete view of every possible execution path, rather than some aspect of limited, observed runtime behaviour.

Since SCA is essentially a build-time analysis, it is most effectively used as a build milestone activity when individual developers or development teams run their builds – either at the integration-build level or the developer-build level

The summer passes, the air cools down, the leaves start to fall…yes, it’s that time of year again. Hunting Season! The favorite time of year to break out that blaze orange outfit, polish the guns, and suit up for the big hunt. Every hunter goes out looking for that prize catch: the big deer. Some hope to catch that world record deer, while others just look to make a kill. From the hunting games to the big woods, its time for deer hunting.

Every hunter has his or her own hunting tricks and tips. Some know the backwoods better that their own backyard. But until you develop your own tricks, here are a few I can share.

Tip #1

Before hunting season even begins, usually January to March, scout your territory and find your favorite location. Always be quiet and careful, just like if you were actually hunting; you want watch the deer. Look for the trees that have the most acorns as they will usually attract deer looking for food. Start to think about where you would station yourself. What will hide you from the surroundings? Greens make a great cover if you don’t want to spend the money on a cover. If you own a hunting stand, set it up to allow the deer to get used to it being there so you won’t scare them away when you actually hunt. If you are afraid you won’t find your spot again, mark it off with a GPS tracker or count your steps into the woods from the most direct route.

Tip #2

No matter how good of a spot you have, don’t hunt in the same spot on multiple days. Try to vary your hunting spot to avoid scaring the deer away. During your preseason scouting, mark off several different areas that may be good spots. That way on day 2 and 3, you can have a different spot to hunt from. This will help ensure when you scare them away from spot 1, you can catch them again at spot 2 or 3. Then go back to spot 1 and start again. If you are using a tree stand, move it around. Deer are smarter than you think; they may associate the stand with humans and then you will never see a deer by your stand. Move it daily.

Tip #3

Deer generally move at dusk and early night. You don’t want to be fast asleep when this happens. Sleep during the day and hunt at night. This will guarantee you are hunting during their peak movement times. If you look for areas with thick, dense brush you may find them sleeping there, so set up a little ways away from there. Be careful; you do not want to fall asleep. You will not only miss your opportunity but you may be in a very dangerous situation. Falling asleep makes you vulnerable to falling from a tree stand or unaware of other hunters. Also, just because deer move at night does not mean you won’t see a deer during the day. They may feed during the day as well.

Tip # 4

When you see your first deer, don’t get too excited. Wait a minute and study the surroundings. Look at where the deer may be looking; is there a buck near the doe? Or maybe there is a larger herd of deer. Don’t be too quick to pull the trigger. Any little sound could startle the deer so take your time and let your heart settle down. Every hunter’s instinct is to take that shot, but calm down, steady yourself, and then take the shot. Make sure your visuals are clear and that no other hunters are in the area. Think: safety first.

Tip #5

To ensure you’re prepared and safe, check and double-check your equipment BEFORE entering the woods. Make sure you have everything you need to bag that trophy deer. For safety, always wear at least one blaze orange article of clothing, always use a flashlight when you are moving in the woods in the dark. Hunt in pairs with two-way radios that are only used when in an emergency or when you get the big one. When in a tree stand, you must wear a harness; falling from a tree is the number 2 cause of injury while hunting, second only to getting shot. To be successful, always use a product like Hunters Specialties’ Scent Away Deodorizing Soap. This will cover up the human scent found on your body. Check over your gun to ensure no misfires or problems that may arise with your firearm.

Every hunter has their own hunting tips; these are just a few to help you on your way to the big deer kill. Deer hunting can be a family sport and can be fun when safety and common sense are used. Take the time to take a safety course and ask the locals for help. Together, this will guarantee a successful and safe hunting experience.

Ever since we stepped out of your caves we’ve had an insatiable wish to look at the stars. That desire hasn’t gone away, and thus Galileo invented the telescope. The modern telescope is fairly nice, nevertheless for those who enjoy watching nature it isn’t really quite as convenient. The spotting scope however is often a decent device that will allow virtually anyone to take advantage of nature, seeing things while they like and ultimately have a very much better experience.

What exactly are hunting spotting scopes? Just how do they work? So what can they do to suit your needs that a telescope can’t? Contrary to popular belief there are plenty of answers to that question and also to start we’ll discuss the hunting benefits. Being a hunter it will be possible to use your spotting scopes to look at your prey from far off. This will offer you a much clearer image than any set of two binoculars with respect to the magnification you decide on.

In addition to hunting you can also use your spotting scopes to view for birds. There are still many bird watchers out there, all of them keen on identifying new birds, or birds that have migrated into the area. With such spotting scopes it will be possible to take apple iphone 4 avian wildlife and take the important points accordingly.

Magnification

You’ll find three numbers printed on any scope the ones numbers have a particular meaning. The first two numbers certainly are a representation with the magnification. The third number may be the diameter of the lens, the commonest diameter being about 50mm. You’ll find that a larger diameter offers you a larger viewing area.

Refraction

Spotting scopes are normally refractors save for some, and refraction requires the use of prisms. These prisms turn the whole picture right side up and correct it properly, and there are two kinds of prisms in use today. First we are going to talk about the porro prism, which are very popular simply because they are easy to produce and cheap to get. Roof prisms are a bit more portable and they are much more expensive. In addition they provide a high quality which makes the ownership of the devices something which only the most elite of hunters and spotters will love.

As you can clearly see, these scopes might be of use to virtually anyone that enjoys the finer side of nature. View the skies, go through the avian life or scope your prey on the following hunting trip. Anything you plan to do with your spotting scopes, you can be certain that it will be much more convenient than doing the same with a telescope. Should you be ready to experience a great view on the planet, then it is time to look into hunting spotting scopes.

The outdoor experience for hunters has been enhanced over the past decade because of new developments in optics. The science of hunting spotting scopes has incorporated new technology in miniaturization and lens production, coupled with lighter materials to produce pocket sized giants. The pleasure of sitting in the blind and glassing your hunting spot has never been better.

The clarity that these new spotting scopes provide to the user adds to the experience and increases the odds of finding game. This new generation of hunting spotting scopes incorporates options such as range finders and drop compensators that give the hunter better information and visual clarity at much greater distances. Until now these options were only available in the rifle scope side of optics or the larger more expensive spotting scopes.

Coated optics have been with us for quite awhile but new generation spotting scopes use technology that until now were in the domain of high end photographic equipment. New generation spotting scopes often utilize the reflex lens systems that give sharper definition at much greater ranges. Low light situations that occur in the early morning or late evening can be frustrating to say the least. Today’s designs use lenses that have greater light gathering capability while keeping glare to a minimum. This is a huge step forward in hunting spotting scope technology.

Spotting scopes have more uses than hunting. Many people enjoy watching nature. This pleasurable past time will always be benefited by a quality spotting scope. The designs use monocular or single eye piece systems and binocular or two eye piece designs that give the user devices that provide better eye relief that help prevent eye strain. Spotting scopes allow the viewer the advantage of seeing nature without disturbing it. This advantage gives longer time in the field and a greater overall experience.

Hunting spotting scopes for the most part have always had some form of leg system that provides a solid base to support the scope that allows for much more comfortable use. The tri-pod arrangement stows collapsed out of the way when not needed and allows the user quick access to the legs that extend often more than a foot or more giving the user a very comfortable viewing platform. New generation spotting scopes use lens caps that flip up out of the way and are much more convenient than the older elastic connected cover type designs.

All the advances in hunting spotting scopes have improved the overall outdoor experience in every direction of out door life. As our lives become more complicated in other areas that rob us of our time in the field, the simple advances in other ways give greater enjoyment to those precious times when we can join friends and family in the outdoor world. By using a quality spotting scope more positive results are obtained when viewing out of doors.

When you think of incredible Mallard hunting, only one place comes to mind; Stuttgart, Arkansas. Stuttgart is known as the Rice and Duck Capital of the World.? Hunting waterfowl in Southeast Arkansas is not considered a pastime, but rather a way of life. Anyone who enjoys wing shooting at its finest must make this trip to the Mecca? of duck hunting at least once in their lifetime.

Below you will find some interesting questions and answers about duck hunting in Arkansas.

Question: When is the best time to come and hunt in Arkansas?

Answer: Depends on the season. Weather, water, and food sources all play a role in your hunting success. By planting food supplies you put the odds in your favor for having 60 days of quality hunting. While it doesn’t guarantee anything, it always helps to put the odds in your favor.

Question: Do I need waders?

Answer: Yes, waders will cover any hunting situation you face while also providing extra insulation to keep you warm and dry.

Question: What kind of ducks are hunted?

Answer: Generally the Mallard duck is the most popular duck among hunters. Early in the season you will have a very mixed bag wherever you are hunting. By mid December the rice fields and timber will produce mostly Mallards. Reservoir hunting and bayou hunting will always produce a mixed bag for the entire season. It all depends on the hunting area.

Question: Should I bring my dog?

Answer: Dogs are welcome but must be controllable. Often times the hunting is fast and furious for the first hour of the hunt. If one person in your group is trying to train a new dog during that time, the success rate could be greatly diminished.

Question: When should I book my hunt?

Answer: Arkansas sets its duck season at the end of August. As soon as you can get your party together it is a very good idea to send your deposit and book. That way you get the days you want. I realize it’s often a hassle to try and get four or five guys together to book a December hunt in August. Plan ahead because booking is usually on a first come first serve basis.

Question: Will my group be mixed with another group?

Answer: Guides usually do not like to mix groups when they are taking hunters. It all depends on the size of your group. If you bring at least four hunters, you will be guaranteed to be hunting only with your group. If you bring eight hunters, they will most likely split your group down and take two groups of four. It isn’t feasible to pay a guide to take one guy hunting and burn down a hole. Anyone who tells you they are willing to do that is probably not being honest.

Question: What type of shotgun and shot size should I use?

Answer: Most adult male hunters prefer a 12 gauge shotgun for duck hunting. They typically shoot a modified choke and shoot number 2, 3, or 4 steel shot depending on where they are hunting. Some hunters who are experienced marksman prefer to shoot a full choke and increase their range. It depends strictly on the preference of the hunter.

Where to lodge: Retriever Lodge is a duck guiding operation that specializes in small groups. We hunt exclusively on private ground and offer some of the finest rice field and flooded timber hunting known to the area. We provide the atmosphere of a buddy hunt? rather than that of a commercial operation. This helps to guarantee an enjoyable hunt, and gives you a true experience of an Arkansas duck hunt.

Retriever Lodge hunts exclusively on privately owned ground. We own several thousand acres of prime duck hunting habitat in the heart of Arkansas County. We have rice fields, soybean fields, dead timber reservoirs, bayou hunting, and green timber hunting. All of our hunting areas are managed to provide optimal hunting. The key to good duck hunting is food. We plant many of our areas exclusively for the ducks. Most of these crops are left standing and periodically flooded throughout the season. We plant rice, milo, and millet in all of our reservoirs and green timber holes. We do not hunt any of our hunting areas over twice a week, and try to let the ducks rest in these areas as much as possible. During the season we check each of our hunting areas to prepare for the next days hunt. Last year Retriever Lodge killed 2505 ducks on our privately owned ground. Two of our groups killed over 225 ducks in a 3 day period. We manage year-round for the ducks. My family owns a fertilizer plant and farms, and we use our labor to work on our hunting areas in our spare time. Two of my employees are basically working on hunting areas full time. I also fly my airplane to scout hunting areas so we don’t disturb the ducks. We take the time and dedicate ourselves to provide exceptional hunting. I personally do not like to go on a bad duck hunt and I really don’t like taking people on a poor hunt. While we can’t guarantee success, we do everything possible to put the odds in our favor.
